The WCH Foundation is offering a unique experience to retrace the footsteps of our Australian WWII Servicemen on the ‘Sandakan Track,’ Borneo as part of 2011Anzac Day commemorations.
An estimated 1,000 Australian Prisoners of War were forced to walk the rugged 260 kilometre jungle track from Sandakan, to Ranau in what is referred to as the Death March.
This once in a lifetime experience is part of a 12 day trek being held from April 23 - 6 May 2011, with funds raised going towards helping sick kids at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital through the funding of several new ‘pain distraction therapy rooms.’
The rooms are brightly decorated treatment rooms which work by distracting children from the pain and anxiety that comes with being seriously ill or injured. By listening to music, playing games or watching a DVD they have something else to focus on so they are less likely to feel frightened or develop a fear of future treatments.
To find out more about how you can make the difference for seriously ill children at the Hospital, and at the same time take part in this once in a lifetime experience, please contact:Caroline Loades at the WCH Foundation on 8464 7900 or email events@wchfoundation.org.au. Places are limited.
