Community generosity reaps rewards for the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation

December 7th, 2009: South Australian shoppers have helped raise more than $374,705 for the Women’s & Children’s Hospital during the Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal this year.

The cheque was handed over this week to the CEO of the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation at a special presentation attended by hospital foundation staff and Woolworths Regional, Area and Store Managers at its Mawson Lakes store.

From 17th August until 11th October, Woolworths supermarkets across Australia ran community fundraising events for the Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal.

Sam Tolley, CEO of the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation said, “we are enormously grateful for the amazing goodwill and spirit of all the Woolworths staff and customers, whose generosity will really make the difference to the patients and staff of the hospital.”

“This year’s donation will again be going to the Rose Ward at the hospital which is undergoing a redevelopment. Rose Ward is a seventeen bed medical surgical ward that primarily looks after babies from birth to twelve months of age. Currently the ward offers facilities which enable parents to stay with their child while they’re in the ward. However, as with all facilities and services, there comes a time when an upgrade is needed.”

Woolworths South Australian Regional Manager, Matthew Waters, “We thank all our customers who have helped us raise this extraordinary amount. Woolworths is proud to continue to support the WCH Foundation. A very special thank you to all the Woolworths staff who have all worked hard and donated their time and own money to help achieve this great result.”
