Humidifiers to support patients in intensive care

Humidifiers deliver air and oxygen to patients safely for optimal function of the airways and lungs. Thanks to the generosity of our community, 15 new humidification machines have been provided to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

Michael Rice Centre Adolescent Room

Teenage patients undergoing cancer treatment at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital now have an upgraded activity space within the Michael Rice Centre Adolescent Room.

New toys for Allied Health patients

Walking into her Speech Pathology appointment, 3-year-old Elysia was met with a room filled with brand-new toys. Speech Pathology Assistant, Karen Sowton, uses them as a way to act out scenarios, ask questions and create a sense of fun for Elysia during her therapy.

The purchase of these toys was made possible thanks to the generous support of Cops for Kids – a dedicated group of current and former South Australia Police employees who raise money for children’s charities.

New anaesthesia machine for paediatric patients

The Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH) has received a brand new piece of equipment to support brilliant care across the Hospital campus.

Funded by a donor of the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation, the $58,000 anaesthesia system administers general anaesthesia to paediatric patients and can be moved around the Hospital for use in the Michael Rice Centre for Haematology and Oncology, the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and the operating theatres.

New equipment for intensive care patients

The WCH Foundation has purchased a new piece of equipment for patients in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH) Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to help them participate in physical activity earlier.

Long-stay PICU patients are at risk of ICU-acquired weakness and survivors of critical illness are reported to have long-term physical, psychological and quality-of-life impairments. These collective impairments are referred to as Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS).

New Out of Home Care Clinic

We have helped create a more welcoming and calming space for children at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH) Out of Home Care (OOHC) Clinic with $10,000 in funding.

The OOHC Clinic aims to provide a comprehensive, child-friendly, trauma-informed service with a focus on improving the overall health and wellbeing of young people under Guardianship by identifying and responding to their physical, developmental, psychological and mental health needs.

All smiles for Smileyscope

Kids across the Women’s and Children’s Health Network (WCHN) are ocean diving with sea creatures, snuggling kittens at cat cafés and relaxing at the beach, all during their healthcare appointments!

Smileyscope is a medical-grade VR goggle being used widely across Australian hospitals and clinics. Smileyscope has programs to support children and teens in a wide range of healthcare settings.
