Mason Minniss Fund

In May 2007, Rob and Cheryl Minniss received the news that no parents would ever imagine to hear, that their 7 year old son Mason was diagnosed with a rare Metabolic condition- Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) Just short of his eleventh birthday, Mason passed away in April 2011 and his legacy will now live on through the Mason Minniss Fund, created with love, in support of the Palliative Care Unit at the Women's and Children's Hospital. “Our gift, with the strength Mason gave us, is now going to help other families in their journey.

Mason was here for a short time, but he will be with us forever and will continue to help through the gifts of comfort for the Palliative Care Unit” ~ Cheryl, Rob and Rohan Minniss ~ Mason loved butterflies so it was only natural that the very first event held in August 2011 to raise money for the Mason Minniss Fund was “A Girls Night Amongst the Butterflies” – a special evening for the girls in McLaren Vale, where Mason lived and went to school.

This event was repeated in 2012 and 2014. Funds raised through the Mason Minniss Fund have assisted in the creation of ‘Masonettes’ – a portable cupboard that can be wheeled into any patients room to provide the family with special homelike atmosphere full of quality practical and comforting items.  The fund also has a website www.masonminnissfund.org
